Rearing Calves & Stirks 290324
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 202 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A larger offering was forward with all classes selling exceptionally well. The sale topped at £810 for a lovely 6-month-old Limousin heifer from Messrs J Weir, High Lodore Farm, this home sold a consignment of 3 to average £786.
Messrs J & B Donald & Son, Lamonby Hall, sold a British Blue bullock to £790, with demand for all classes of stirks very high and more are required at our fortnightly sales.
A massive entry of young calves was forward, topping at £540 for a 4-month-old British Blue bull from Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East, closely followed at £525 for a Limousin bull from Mr DW Mallinson, with this consignment of 5 averaging £475.
Heifer calves topped at £515 for a lovely British Blue from Messrs J Jackson & Son, Frizington Parks Farm, with this run of 10 selling to average £437.
Dairy-bred bulls topped at £310 for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs WL Musgrave & Sons, Cardew Hall.
