Today we held our fortnightly sale of 34 OTM Cattle. Trade proved to be exceptional with the whole sale averaging 279ppk, topping at 358.5ppk for a superb pure Limousin cow, weighing 651kg from Messrs W Richardson & Son, Ghyll House, realising £2333.58, this was closely followed by another from the same home, weighing 717kg achieving £2520.26/251.5ppk, both purchased by Mr Owain Llyr. Messrs Richardson, Low Garth, sold their consignment of British Blue X Limousin cows to average £2542.25/339ppk, topping at £2621.31 for a 10-year-old cow, weighing 786kg, also purchased by Mr Owain Llyr. Holstein cows, straight from the parlour and through our TB exempt section, achieved a top of £2295.15, weighing 858kg (267.5ppk) from Skirwith Abbey, purchased by Mr L Fell, another from this home realised £1936.87/305.5ppk, selling to Mr G Chapman. Stock bulls topped at £3482.82/329.5ppk for an outstanding pure Limousin, weighing 1057kgs from Messrs G & JE Bell, Far Broom, purchased by Mr Owain Llyr. With plenty of demand for all classes, more are required to fulfil our buyers’ demand for our next sale on Monday 14th July. _________________________________________________ We also held our fortnightly sale of Prime Cattle. Clean cattle topped at £2573.42/344.5ppk for a Limousin X bullock from Mr D Raine, Old Parks, with this home also selling a 38-month-old Limousin heifer to 335.5ppk, purchased by Mr G Chapman. A dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus bull achieved £1984.50/337.5ppk from Claremont Properties, Hay Close, purchased by Mr R Medcalf, Halifax. Today we held our fortnightly sale of 107 store cattle and feeding bulls of all classes. A great show of well-reared stock was forward for the time of year, with demand for store cattle still very strong. Topping today’s sale at £2,615 was a great twenty-six-month-old Charolais bullock from Messrs AJ Glendinning, Dacre Banks Farm. This same home sold British Blue bullocks to a top of £2,335, with this run averaging £2,230 for six. A large amount of native-bred stock was forward, with a pen of five Aberdeen Angus bullocks selling for £2,275 per head from Messrs S & W Maughan, Street House. Heifers sold to a top of £2,135 for a pen of three British Blue crosses from Messrs JJ & CE Palmer, Greensyke. Messrs DW Burne & Son, Greenlands, sold an outstanding pen of 6 twenty-six-month-old Holstein bullocks to £1,855. Younger cattle sold to £2,095 for a sixteen-month-old Limousin from Messrs JB Holliday, Town Head Farm. CAST EWES AND RAMS - Wednesday 25th June 2025 On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,267 prime sheep, comprising of 408 prime hoggs, 512 spring lambs & 2,347 cast ewes & rams. As we now head to the end of June, demand holds exceptionally well with 2,347 Ewes sold to average £147.58. The best still heading over the £300 barrier with pures to £305 selling to Pak Mecca Meat closely followed at £300 selling to AJ Meats, Birmingham. Heavy Ewes still adding up, with numerous Suffolks £200 plus topping at £245 from Mr M McNally and Mr C Abernethy selling pures to £240. The best Mules to £200 from Messrs T Armstrong & Son, Sceugh Dyke and a pen of 10 Scotch Mules to £199 from Tann Hill Farms. Horned Ewes fell a long way short of buyers requirements with some huge Scotch Blackface topping at £158 with 3 other lots averaging £150. The best Swale Ewes up to £131 from Keskadale and numerous others £100 plus. Cast Rams to £250 on two occasions firstly from Mr W Morrison, South Bogbain and secondly from Cairn Loch Farm with 3 Texels selling to Balal Halal, Birmingham. With plenty of others £200 plus.
