March Special Show & Sale of Store Cattle - 11.03.24
On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their March Special Show & Sale of 500 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls of all classes, kindly sponsored by PFK Rural, I’Anson’s Quality Feeds & Katy Edgar Outside Catering.
The early morning judging was in the capable hands of Dale & Joanne Holgate, Wakefield after much deliberation they awarded the championship rosette to the 1st prize any other breed bullock from Messrs Dufton, Bogie Street which later on went on to be sold for £2150 and bought by the judge. Reserve champion honours went to Messrs Wilson, Undercragg for there 1st prize Limousin bullock achieving £1680 for 12 months old again purchased by the judge.
An outstanding offer of cattle were forward today with huge credit going to all consigners. Topping today’s sale at £2500 were 2 great Charollais bullocks at 24 & 28 months consigned by Mr B Dufton, Bogie Street with the same home also selling Angus bullocks at £2475. Numerous lots from this home sold in excess of £2000.
Heifers topped at £2045 for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Wales, Thackwood this homes run attracted a strong interest with 2 other lots also selling for £2015 with a large percentage of this run being bought as herd replacements.
A large number of yearling stores were forward with good shaped bullocks & heifers regularly £1450 - £1550 with massive demand in this section as there are less suckler cattle nationally.
Messrs Ivinson, Skelling sold 3 great fleshed heifers at 22 months old to average £1941.
Dairy bred cattle continue to surpass expectations with Angus x bullocks up to £1705 from Messrs S & W Maughan, Street House.
