Rearing Calves & Stirks 010324
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 158 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A flying trade was witnessed today, as good as we’ve seen for some time with reared calves a joy to sell.
Stirks were in short supply and selling very well, the sale topped at £825 for a 10-month-old Beef Shorthorn bull from Messrs TG & FK Stobart, Croglin High Hall. Mr TW Fawcett, Little Blencowe Farm, sold a pair of 9-month-old Hereford bullocks to £600.
A far larger entry of calves was forward, topping at £625 for a pair of 4-month-old British Blue bulls from Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm, with this home also realising £600 for another pair.
Limousin bulls topped at £590 for a 5-month-old calf from Mr DW Mallinson, Lodge Farm. Messrs J Jackson & Son, Frizington Parks Farm, sold a run of 3-month-old calves, topping at £300 for a British Blue bull.
Heifers topped at £500 on two occasions, firstly for a 3-month-old Charolais from Messrs JAH Walton & Son, Bank View. Secondly for a pen of three British Blues, 4-months-old from Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm.
Messrs JAH Walton & Son, Bank View, also sold 3-month-old Black & Whites to £310.
Messrs Mattocks, Auldby Farm, sold a pen of five 9-week-old Friesian bulls to £280.
