On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 120 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A smaller show of calves and stirks was forward to the dearest trade seen for a long time with numbers way short of requirements.
The sale topped at £790 for a 7-month-old Hereford bull stirk from Messrs TA & J Brownrigg, How Hill, purchased by Mr K Hunt.
Three to four-month-old stirks met a vast of strong bidding with Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm, selling British Blue bulls to £500 for a pen of 3, with this home also selling 5-month-old Aberdeen Angus bulls to £550.
Young milk calves topped at £390 for an 8-week-old Limousin X British Friesian from Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm, with this home also selling British Friesian calves to £205.
A consignment of 12-week-old Limousin X British Friesian calves averaged £415.83 from Messrs Todhunter, Beeches Farm, topping at £480, purchased by regular customers Messrs JG & RW Nevinson & Son.
