On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 62 OTM Cattle.
Plenty of demand around the cow ring, especially for meat. The sale topped at £2271.25/287.5ppk for a superb 42-month-old Limousin x British Blue cow from Messrs EJ Ivinson & Son, Skelling Farm, purchased by Mr Owain Llyr, this was closely followed at £1908.02/257.5ppk for another from the same home.
An exceptionally well-fed young Limousin cow achieved £1984.67/271.5ppk from Messrs PJ & ES Rogerson, Masiongill, purchased by Mr D Barker.
Cast bulls topped at £2183.02/215.5ppk for a Limousin, weighing 1013kg from Messrs James, Melmerby Mill, purchased by Mr Owain Llyr.
A 60-month-old Holstein cow, straight out the parlour, achieved £1330.55/160.5ppk from Messrs Hayton, Penny Hill, purchased by Mr L Fell. Messrs DW Cannon & Son, Low Abbey, also sold 60-month-old parlour cows to top at £1294.92/167.5ppk.
A consignment of 7 Normande cows averaged £1045/148.5ppk from Mr J Findlay, Skirwith, topping at £1290.02/163.5ppk for a 5-year-old cow.
Demand throughout the sale was very strong with buyers keen to purchase, more numbers are required on a fortnightly basis. Our next sale will be held on Monday 18th December.
