Rearing Calves & Stirks 101123
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 175 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another great entry of calves and stirks was forward, with a packed ringside of buyers present calves were far dearer than in previous weeks.
The calf section topped at £420 for a lovely British Blue bull from Mr JR Tiplady, The Bramery, this home sold a fabulous run of calves also selling Aberdeen Angus bulls to £365. Heifer calves topped at £400 for a British Blue from Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm.
Dairy-bred bull calves topped at £280 for a Montbeliarde from Messrs JP & GJ Simpson, Knock Cross.
A smaller show of stirks were on offer with quality types very good to sell, the sale topped at £760 for a lovely pen of 5 Limousin heifers, 8-months-old from Mr WR Wilson, South View, purchased by Mr M Holmes, Tilery Farm.
A pair of 7-month-old British Blue bull stirks topped at £730 from Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East. Messrs JH & E Ivinson, Plumpton Foot, sold a pair of Aberdeen Angus bulls to £660.
