Prime Sheep 251023
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 5,909 prime sheep, comprising of 2,581 prime lambs & 3,328 cast ewes & rams.
Another great entry of prime lambs was forward, with trade still fabulous for the time of year. A whole sale average of £121 was achieved, this £15 up on the year. An SQQ average of 280p/kg was realised.
A top price of 358p/kg (£143) was achieved for a pen of ten fantastic Beltex lambs, weighing 40kg from Messrs A J & F M Harrison, Grange Hall. This home sold fifty-four lambs to average 341p/kg.
A top price per head of £159 was achieved for a great pen of five Beltex lambs weighing 52kg from Messrs Gardner, Glebelands.
Suffolk lambs topped at £140 (298p/kg) for a pair weighing 47kg from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey.
Cheviot-Mules sold to £126 for a pen of nineteen weighing 52kg from Messrs R & J M Ridley, Ranbeck.
Mule lambs topped at £124 for a pen of twelve weighing 53kg from Messrs W & R Lawson, Stubbsgill Farm.

A monster entry of ewes was forward once again with a very similar trade witnessed, much better than expected earlier in the week.
Several pens of ewes still sold in excess of £200, topping at £240 for a Continental ewe from Mr A Straney, Glenroyd Road, purchased by Mr J Linsley.
A total of 15 goats forward in the sale averaged £104.67, topping at £136 for a pair from Mrs H Mcphee, Meaburn Hall.
Heavy ewes held their value exceptionally well with Suffolks topping at £160 from Backmuir Livestock, with numerous other pens achieving £140 plus.
A consignment of 150 Scotch Blackface ewes from Gate Farm averaged £89.41, topping at £90 for a ring full of 49.
Plenty of tups sold in excess of £150 for weight, topping at £170 from Glenroyd Road.
A very fast trade was seen for all classes, a result of 13 active buyers around the ring side.
