Suckled Calves & Store Cattle 231023

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their annual sale of suckled calves, followed by store cattle of all classes.

Our annual sale of suckled calves attracted plenty of interest, with this section topping at £1275 for a British Blue cross bullock from Mr J Mattinson, Green Farm, Bassenthwaite, purchased by Mr D Barker.

Messrs H & E Trotter, Low Dyke, sold a lovely consignment of six-month-old Blonde d’Aquitaine bullocks and heifers to average £993.33, topping at £1065 for a bullock purchased by Mr J Little. This home also topped the heifer section at £995.

Suckled calves right across the board sold to a very sharp trade, venders were highly satisfied with their returns, although numbers in this section were way short of our buyers’ requirements.

Store cattle continued to see a buoyant trade with a consignment of well-turned-out cattle from Messrs MTP & SD Wills, Fawcett Park, selling to a top of £1985 & £1975 for Limousin cross British Blue heifers, with bullocks from this home realising £1915.

A consignment of ten Limousin cross bullocks and heifers from Messrs TE Clarke, Howgill Castle, averaged £1510, with a super pen of heifers achieving £1555.

There was plenty of demand for dairy-bred cattle, with Holstien bullocks topping at £1345 from Messrs D Burne, Town End. Dairy-bred British Blue bullocks realised £1605 from Messrs Gardner, Glebelands.

Feeding bulls topped at £1345 for a sixteen-month-old British Blue cross from Mr C Riley, Brooklands Grange. More bulls are required, with plenty of clientele present to purchase.

Our next sale of store cattle will be held on Monday 6th November, entries close noon Monday 30th October.
