Rearing Calves & Stirks 010923
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 238 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A large entry of both stirks and calves was forward, the result of a very healthy ringside of buyers with several new vendors taking advantage of the trade.
Strong, weaned cattle met a very fast trade topping at £980 for a 13-month-old Limousin bullock from Messrs RG & TB Wilson, Scales Farm, with this consignment of mainly 6 to 7-month-old Limousin X bulls averaging £832.80.
A consignment of 11 dairy-bred British Blue X bulls, 8-months-old, averaged £688 from Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East, with many more of this type required to fulfil demand.
A pen of 5 Black & White bulls, 12 to 16-weeks-old, achieved £285 from Messrs Mattocks, Auldby Farm, purchased by Mr D Thwaites. Messrs Dent, Bridge End, sold a pen of four
10-week-old Montbeliarde X Holstein bulls to £245.
Calves met a good trade also with Aberdeen Angus topping at £400 from Messrs JP & DL Simpson, Knock Cross, but plainer 2 to 3-week-old calves would be a fraction easier on the fortnight.
