On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 66 OTM Cattle.
A better show of cows was on offer on the fortnight, topping at £2515.40 (264.5p/kg) for a fantastic British Blue cow from Messrs JE Bellas & Son, Croft Ends, weighing 951kg.
Top price per kilo on the day was 277.5p/kg (£1759.35), this was paid for another cracking Blue cow, weighing 634kg, this time from Messrs P & MR Carruthers, Raw Foot.
Another great cow achieved £2185.30 (266.5p/kg), for a Limousin cross weighing 820kg, from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey.
Top priced dairy cow on the day came from Skirwith Abbey, which achieved £1400.15 (173.5p/kg) for a seven-year-old Holstein cow weighing 807kg.
Top price per kilo in this section was 191.5p/kg, and was achieved twice, both for forty-month-old Holstein cows, firstly from Mr W Schug, Bongate Moor, and secondly from Messrs R Forrest & Son, Low Rutter.
Demand is very strong and more numbers are required on a fortnightly basis to fulfil demand. Our next sale will be held on Monday 17th July.
