Rearing Calves & Stirks
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 169 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another strong entry was forward for the time of year with trade continuing to fly but a shortage of well-reared stock on offer. The sale topped at £960 for a lovely 14-month-old British Blue bullock from Lowther Park Farms, this home also topped the heifer section at £900 for a British Blue the same age. Messrs WE Strong & Partners, Midtown Farm, sold a lovely 12-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifer to £850.
Younger stirks, three to six-months-old, are exceptionally good to sell with Messrs Messenger, The Howes, topping at £640 for a British Blue bull, this home also sold a pen of 3 to £620 per head.
Calves were very keenly bid for, topping at £500 for a beautiful 2-month-old Charolais heifer from Messrs JAH Walton & Son, Bank View, with another from this home realising £410. British Blue bulls topped at £485 from Turnbull Farming, Monks House. Messrs CM & CS Chappelhow, High Grounds, sold some lovely Hereford bull calves topping at £310.
