Rearing Calves & Stirks 260523
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 130 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A smaller entry was forward but demand remains high for all classes, the sale topped at £780 for a lovely Charolais bull stirk from Messrs M Ridsdale & Son, Yew Tree Farm.
Mr AP Mason, Looking Flatt, sold a 9-month-old British Blue bullock to £700. Bull stirks continue to fly, with 4 to 6-month-old stirks regularly achieving in excess of £550.
Young calves were again good to sell, topping at £530 for a cracking British Blue bull from Messrs Millican, Low Moor Farm. Heifers topped at £500 for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Carlisle, Fowrass Farm. Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm, sold a great run of calves, with a Beef Shorthorn bull achieving £355 and a pair of pure Friesian bulls realising £255.
