Latter Fair & Second Troutbeck Breeding Sheep 230523
On Tuesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their “Latter Fair” Sale of 4,638 Hoggs, Ewes & Shearlings with Lambs at Foot & Geld Gimmer Hoggs together with the Second “Troutbeck” Sale of Swaledale, Herdwick and Hill Bred Ewes with Lambs at foot.
Quality consignments fetched premium prices, as seen at our previous sale. Yet, the poorer and plainer sorts met a more realistic trade.
The sale topped at £210 per life for a superb Dutch Spotted hogg with a Dutch spotted lamb at foot from Owen Marrs, Wreay Hall Farm, selling to Mr D Pollock, Ivegill.
Quality Mules with great power from Mr J Winter, Clickham Farm, sold to a top of £129 per head, purchased by Mr WH Brass, Low Row.
Texel X Beltex shearling with Beltex lambs at foot from Messrs TF & GL Pollock, Wreay Hall Farm, realised £160 per life, selling to Messrs JM Carruthers & Son.
Our Troutbeck section attracted a large amount of interest, with Swales regularly achieving £60-£70 per head. Herdwicks with singles achieved £64 a life and others were regularly £50 per head plus.
