Rearing Calves & Stirks 120523
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 170 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another great entry was forward, with a smaller show of young calves on offer. The demand still proves to be high for youngsters though, with a top price of £600 being achieved for two weaned British Blue bull calves from Howes Farming. Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, had some lovely young calves on offer, topping at £550 for a five-week-old British Blue bull. Messrs Threlfell, Plumpton Head, sold a great run of young 2–3-week-old British Blue bull and heifer calves topping at £335, with these types being in demand.
A large offering of stirks was forward today with some great cattle on offer. This section topped at £950 for a cracking Limousin cross Friesian bull from Messrs Mattocks, Auldby, selling to Mr Spence, Thirsk, who purchased another three at £890 from the same home. Messrs Mattocks also had a lovely packet of four pure Friesian bulls selling at £650. Heifers topped at £850 for two suckler-bred Limousin heifers from Mr BR Davidson, West View. Messrs Grierson, Musgrave Hall, sold a run of 10 eleven-month-old Belted Galloway cross heifers to a top of £800, averaging £708 for this consignment.
