Prime Sheep - 19.04.23
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 5,421 prime sheep, comprising of 2,790 prime hoggs & 2,630 cast ewes & rams.
Fantastic numbers forward at Penrith today, with some great runs of well finished sheep on offer.
The top price per kilo was 436ppk from Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside, realising £170, for a pen of 3 Beltex Hoggs, weighing 39kg purchased by Vivers Scotlamb.
The overall top price was £183 for a single Texel hogg from Auchengray Farms purchased by Mr M Bowe.
Messrs Savage, Petteril Green sold a run of 63 fabulous Beltex Hoggs, to average 358ppk/£163.46.
Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall sold 141 hoggs, averaging 50kg at 316ppk/£159.
Messrs Irving, East Cliff sold 20 Suffolk X Hoggs, 61kgs/£161 ahead.
Ireshope Plains sold some fantastic Scotch Blackface hoggs topping the ppk at 321p.
Another large entry of cast ewes with all sold averaging £115.20. A total of 71 sold in excess of £200 ahead. The sale today topped at £280 from Tarn End with a Texel selling to Mr James Linsley with all sold averaging £160.07.
Beltex Ewes was the top of the shops at Penrith, with all sold averaging £184.92, topping at £268 from Holme House.
Heavy ewes still regularly £150-£160 topping at £172 for a pen of 18 Suffolk X Cheviot from Holme House selling to Pak Mecca Meats and Messrs G & H R Shields, Tarn House selling Bluefaced Leicester Ewes to £160.
A top price of £200 was achieved 6 times for rams, including a Bluefaced Leicester from Messrs Lord, West Dowgill.
Horned ewes would see a comfortable rise with Greenacres selling Scotch Blackface to £122 for a pen of 16, and pen of 29 achieving £104 selling to Pickstock Foods. Swaledales from Messrs S Allan & Son, Greenhow sold a ring full of 20 to £116.
