Calf Report 140423
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 140 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
All classes were in high demand, the sale topped at £780 for a Limousin X bull stirk from Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm, this home also sold another to £765, both purchased by Messrs JB & G Thompson, Horsegills.
Stirks ready to turn out were in very high demand with Messrs JH & E Ivinson, Plumpton Foot, selling a pen of 6 Hereford heifers to £695, purchased by Messrs JH & ME Chappelhow, Friendship Farm. Mr B Hogg, Cairnbridge Farm, sold a packet of 9 Aberdeen Angus bullocks to £600, purchased by Mr JR Holliday, Town Foot Farm. Black & White bulls topped at £580 for a pair from Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm.
A larger entry of calves was forward with the best end far sharper on the week. Some lovely consignments were on offer, topping at £550 for a cracking Charolais X heifer, 10-weeks-old from Messrs JAH Walton & Son, Bank View, purchased by Mr M Lister. This consignment of 7 bulls & heifers averaged £442.80.
Messrs Millican, Low Moor Farm, topped at £500 for a 3-month-old British Blue bull. A pair of British Blue bulls realised £480 from Thackwood Farm. Messrs W Threlfell & Son, Plumpton Head, achieved £340 for a 3-week-old British Blue bull.
