On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 292 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls.
Another fantastic trade was had, with demand growing sale upon sale, as numbers start to lessen nationally.
Topping today’s sale at £1705 was a fantastic eighteen-month-old Limousin bullock from Mr TE Clarke, Howgill Castle, selling to Mr D Whaite. This run of five sold to average £1545.
Heifers topped at £1685 from Messrs Wales, Thackwood, for a very well fleshed Limousin. A great run of 10 cattle from this home averaged £1538.
Messrs DW Burne & Son, Greenlands, sold a lovely packet of 9 twenty-month-old Holstein Friesian bullocks for £1195 per head, selling to Mr F Towers.
One of the highlights from today’s sale was a run of suckler-bred cattle from Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey. This consignment topped at £1595 for a lovely sixteen-month-old red Limousin heifer, selling to Mr W Armstrong. This run of forty sold to average £1210.
Messrs Hodgson, Woodfoot, sold 4 sixteen-month-old Limousin bullocks and heifers to average £1382.
Messrs Curwen, Sunny Gill, had a great run of Hereford bullocks to top at £1435, with this consignment averaging £1313 for six.
