Prime Sheep - 12.10.22
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 5,239 prime sheep, comprising of 2,639 prime lambs & 2,600 cast ewes and rams.
Another larger show of Prime Lambs were forward, achieving an average of 254ppk being achieved. Topping at 332ppk from W E Strong, Midtown weighing, 41kg’s totalling £136 purchased by Mr J Blenkhorn.
Closely followed at 330ppk from M/s Gardner, Glebelands with there consignment averaging 301ppk / £134.40 for 44.5kgs.
Heavy lambs topped at £152 for 49kg Texel lambs, from M/s Graham, Hallrigg purchased by M Bowe.
53kg Texel x lambs achieved £149 ahead form M/s W E & B Wilson, Undercragg. (281ppk).
A new market record was achieved in the ewe ring with Mrs J Marshall, Kirkpatrick Fleming achieving £302 ahead for a Texel purchased by Mr W Shearer.
Over 15 pens of ewes sold in excess of £200 and Suffolk’s achieving £170 from Holme House purchased to Mr W Shearer.
M/s G & J E Bell, Far Broom sold a consignment of ewes to average a staggering £193.67!!
Demand for ewes held very strong if anything a little dearer especially for heavy ewes and Texel & Beltex bred ewes.
More numbers are required for our sale next week with more could have been sold to venders’ advantage.
