Prime Sheep 280922
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 6,223 prime sheep, comprising of 2,146 prime lambs & 4,077 cast ewes and rams.
Prime lambs met a surprisingly sharp trade considering previous markets this week. An SQQ average of 247ppk was achieved, topping at 321ppk for a pen of 43kg Texel cross Beltex lambs from Messrs JL Potter, Town Head, realising £138 purchased by Mr M Bowe. This home also sold heavies to £148 for a pen of 57kg, purchased by Mr J Blenkhorn.
Messrs W Gribbon & Son, Waterside Farm, was leading in front once again with a consignment of 34 Texel cross Beltex lambs averaging £123/300ppk for 41kg.
Weight sold exceptionally well all day, with Messrs DG & LM Strong, Sleagill House, selling a run of Suffolk cross Mule lambs to average £136.89/255ppk for 53kg, topping at £138 for a pen of 29, weighing 54kg, purchased by Mr N Lomax.
Mule lambs topped at £124 for 54kg from Messrs Lowis, Waterside House, selling to Farmers Fresh.
A record entry of cast ewes was forward to a complete ringside of buyers ensuring a very level trade from start to finish. Texel cross ewes topped at £245 for a pair from Tarn End, purchased by Mr J Linsley.
A consignment of Charollais cross ewes from Mr J Aiken, Brick House, averaged £195.71, topping at £200 for a pen of four Texel cross Charollais purchased by Mr D Towers.
A large show of hill-bred ewes were forward with many people drafting hard, a pen of 16 Cheviot ewes achieved £123 from Holme House.
