Store Lambs 280922
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers Mart LLP held their special show and sale of 2000 Store Lambs.
The sale topped at £176 for a fantastic single ewe lamb from Mr G Cartmel, Hollands, with numerous other pens from this home achieving over £172, a total of 260 lambs from this consignment achieved in excess of £110, also selling Mule lambs to £89 for a pen of twenty, purchased by Mr J Errington.
Messrs JE Bellas & Son, Croft Ends Farm, achieved 1st prize in the Texel class for a pen of five realising £118 purchased by Mr J Marrs.
Suffolk lambs continue to generate large interest, topping at £87 for a pen of 22 from Messrs P & J Bailey, Far Bank End, purchased by Mr E Harker.
Messrs Barker, Noran Bank Farm, sold a great run of Cheviot lambs to average £75, topping at £81.
The show was expertly judged by Mr Jacob Stoddart, who awarded the championship rosette to a pen of five Beltex ewe lambs from Mr Gordon Cartmel, Hollands, realising £159 per head, with the reserve pen of five Beltex wethers from the same home achieving £132, both pens purchased by the judge.
