Rearing Calves & Stirks 020922
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 165 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A larger entry of weaned cattle was forward, with trade continuing to hold up extremely well. Younger calves sold to far better rates than a fortnight ago. The sale topped at £730 for a pair of ten-month-old British Blue bullocks from Lowther Park Farm, purchased by Mr J Ellwood, Howrigg, with heifers from the same home topping at £640 for a pen of 4 eight-month-old British Blues, purchased by Messrs JH & ME Chappelhow, Friendship Farm.
Weaned calves sold with ease, topping at £560 for a lovely three-month-old British Blue bull from Messrs JH & JE Taylor, The Harras. Closely followed at £550 for a Limousin bull from Messrs FR Crew, Gall Farm and £540 for an Aberdeen Angus bull from Messrs JM & J Fisher & Daughters, Holmwrangle.
Young calves met a flying trade, topping at £450 for an eight-week-old British Blue from Messrs J Jackson & Son, Frizington Parks Farm, with heifers from the same home achieving £410.
A larger show of dairy-bred stirks was forward with Mr TW Fawcett, Little Blencowe Farm, selling twelve Swedish Red & White bullocks for £470 per head.
