Rearing calves & stirks 190822
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 180 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another large show of calves and stirks was forward to an extended ringside of buyers, with calves over six-weeks-old reaching some fantastic rates. The sale topped at £780 per head for a pair of strong British Blue bull stirks from Lowther Park Farms, purchased by Mr Stephen Pye, with many six-month-old stirks realising in excess of £600.
Weaned calves, around three-months-old, achieved a flying trade with many buyers for this class going home empty handed, topping at £460 for a British Blue bull from Messrs JAH Walton & Son, Bank View.
Younger calves, under one-month-old were harder to places, topping at £410 for a shapely, well-reared British Blue from Messrs AD & FE Elliott, Askrigg Hall.
