On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 83 OTM Cattle.
The demand for cast cows just keeps getting stronger and stronger, from one week to the next.
The whole sale averaged 171p/kg, with beef bred cows topping at 239.5p/kg for a four-year-old Limousin cow, weighing 654kg, realising £1566.33 from Messrs PC & J Noble, Walmgate, selling to Mr Owain Llyr. This was closely followed up to 234.5p/kg for a Limousin cow from Messrs RJ and M Ridley, Ranbeck, selling to Mr D Barker, this consignment of six averaged 212p/kg (£1615.77) for mainly first cross cows.
The sale topped at £1872.33 227.5p/kg from Messrs MJ & J Crocker Town End, with a ten-year-old British Blue cross Limousin cow.
A 10-year-old Holstein cow from Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse, weighing 850kg realised £1449.25 (170.5p/kg) selling to Pickstocks at Telford.
A twelve-year-old Friesian cow realised 187.5p/kg (£1329.38) from Messrs James, Melmerby Mill, selling to Mr L Fell.
Messrs W & SE Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, sold a run of 9 to 11-year-old Holstein & Limousin cross Friesian cows to average a staggering £1569.94 (207.5p/kg), topping at 222.5p/kg.
A 10-year-old Charolais stock bull topped at £2157.37 (185.5p/kg) from Messrs AM & PM Bowman & Son, Crindledyke, purchase by Mr Owain Llyr.
