Today we held our fortnightly sale of 74 cast cows and bulls and prime cattle. Only two prime bulls were forward and many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage. The prime section topped at £2,671.73 for a 727kg Limousin from Messrs ER Toppin & Son, Gale Hall, this home also achieved the top pence-per-kilo at 377.5ppk for 648kg. A great entry of cast cows was forward for the time of year, with a large offering of suckler-bred cows resulting in a whole-sale average of 265ppk or £1748 per head. The sale topped at 371.5ppk for a great 36-month-old Limousin cow from Messrs TW Bell & Son, Hill Top, weighing 632kg, realising £2,347.88. A top price-per-head of £2,365.29 was achieved for a British Blue cow, weighing 738kg from Messrs HW & J Birkbeck, Castle Hill. Black & Whites topped at £2,346.50 for a 933kg cow from Skirwith Abbey. A top price-per-kilo of 282.5ppk went to a young heifer, weighing 643kg from Mr AJ Barraclough, Gatelands Farm, realising £1,816.48. Messrs JD & F Wharton, Town Head Farm, sold a 7-year-old pure Friesian cow to £2,007.72/253.5ppk for 792kg. Messrs PH Thompson & Partners, Greengill Head, sold a 6-year-old Jersey cow to £2,182.13/264.5ppk for 825kg. Our next sale will be held on Monday 22nd June 2026. Today we held our fortnightly sale of 81 Store Cattle. A smaller seasonal entry of store cattle was forward, with another flying trade witnessed throughout the sale. More could have easily been sold to the vendors’ advantage. Topping the sale at £2,435 was a cracking 23-month-old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs MTP & SD Wills, Fawcett Park. This home also topped the heifers at £2,385 for a Charolais, with this consignment averaging £2,371.67 for three sold. Messrs GW & A Hird, Westray, sold an Aberdeen Angus to £2,045 for a 24-months-old bullock, two others from the same home sold to £2,035. Some lovely young suckler-bred cattle were on offer from Messrs E & R Brass & Son, Barnskew, who sold a 10-month-old Limousin heifer to £1,865.
