On Bank Holiday Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 454 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls, this included a prize show and sale for the bullocks and heifers.
Once again here in Penrith the August Show and sale of Store Cattle produced outstanding runs of both Dairy & Beef bred cattle. The ringside was as busy as we have seen for some time with new customers here eager to buy stock.
Topping the day’s trading at £2640 came for the day’s champion an excellent British Blue x Heifer from M Ridsdale & son, Yew Tree. Once again, the Wills family at Fawcett Park never disappoint in quality bringing an outstanding run selling Bullocks to a top of £2595 for
a 23-month-old Limousin. This homes run of 11 Bullocks and heifers selling to average a staggering £2509.55.
M/s J Wilson, South Field brought another run of excellent Dairy bred stock with power and flesh selling a pen of 3 Angus Bullocks to £2415 for 24–26-month-old. Arguably the Wilsons showed the best run of Montbéliard bullocks ever seen in Penrith, selling a pen of 7 to £2365 with a further 10 selling over £2300. This home sold 30 to average £2347.
Another run of stock needing no introduction came from the Strongs at Well House topping at £2515 and averaging £2300. 26 cattle sold for £2400 or more. Yearling cattle also sold exceptionally well regularly making over the £2000-mark, M/s Bennett, The Hollins selling a Limousin Heifer at £2140.

On Monday, Penrith & District Farmers' Mart LLP held its fortnightly sale of 1412 Store Lambs.
Another bumper entry of 1412 store lambs were forward with longer keep lambs on offer however average on the fortnight reads the sum of £107.45.
Topping the day’s trading at £148 came for a Texel x lamb from Mr M Kitching & S Smith, Garnett House, Kendal and Mr M Stephenson, Winter Tarn closely following at £143 for a
Beltex lamb.
M/s Hird, Park Head sold a pen of 26 Suffolk lambs at £136 purchased by Miss Olivia Grindley. Mule lambs sold to £124 for a pen of 19 cracking lambs from M/s RB & DJ
Bousfield, Old Forge.
Mr J Bland, Clea Hall sold a pen of 20 Texel x lambs to £130. M/s AJ Glendinning sold a run of 49 lambs to average £129.80.
More sheep can be sold with ease.

OTM & Prime Cattle Report
On Monday, Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held its fortnightly sale of 47 cast cows.
Trade was largely unchanged from a fortnight ago, although a few more buyers were in attendance, ensuring that all classes attracted competitive bidding. The sale topped at 361.5p/kg for a 571kg Limousin from M/s Strong, Well House, which sold to Mr D Barker. Their consignment of four Limousin cows averaged 320p/kg and £2,014.85 per head.
OTM Holstein Friesian heifers topped at 311.5p/kg, realising an impressive £2,354.94 and selling to Mr F Towers. Parlour cows peaked at £1,909.65 for an 870kg Holstein Friesian from M/s W & S E Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, which sold to Mr G Chapman. Ten-year-old Beef Shorthorn cows reached £2,118.60, or 267.5p/kg, for M/s WC & DJ Copland, Nether Colinhirst, selling to Mr D Hancock.
There was plenty of demand for cast bulls. Holsteins topped at £2,883.15 for a 1,290kg bull from M/s Mattocks, Auldby Farm, while a pure-bred Limousin from M/s A & N Bennett, Hollins Farm, weighing 899kg, sold at 273.5p/kg.

Prime Cattle
On Monday, Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held its fortnightly sale of prime cattle.
A few more young bulls were forward, with all classes trading much more sharply than a fortnight ago.
The sale topped at 341.5p/kg for a 685kg Simmental from M/s Pearson, Manor Farm, which realised £2,339.28 and sold to Jewitt Meat Company.
Dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus bulls from Mr D. F. Crew, Gall Farm, topped at £1,964.93, or 307.5p/kg, and also sold to Jewitt Meat Company.
More cattle are required at each sale to meet strong demand.
