Today we held our fortnightly sale of 159 Store Cattle. A smaller entry of store cattle was forward with another fantastic trade throughout for all classes. Topping today’s sale at £2615 came for an outstanding out-wintered Charolais bullock at 22-months-old from Messrs W Routledge, Lordstown, Bewcastle, this consignment of outwintered stores also topped the heifer section at £2485 for an outstanding pen of 5. Also topping the heifer section at £2485 was a Beef Shorthorn at 26-months-old from Messrs Wiseman & Son, Moor End. Also breaking the £2500 barrier was a Limousin bullock from Claremont Properties realising £2515. Messrs G & EA Harrison, Mount Clifton, sold some fabulous Ayrshire bullocks at £2275 & £2265 for 24-months-old. Black & White bullocks sold to £1755 for 3 from Messrs Alderson, Step Ends. Mr TH Harrison, Sleddale Hall, sold an 8-month-old Limousin bullock to £2025, with this run of 8 bullocks & heifers selling to average £1863. Mr K J Burrow, Hacra, sold 10-month-old Limousin bulls to a top of £1995. Today we held our fortnightly sale of 65 OTM Cattle. A bonanza cast cow trade was witnessed with all classes up up up!!! The whole sale averaged £1778.67, with a top of £2863.40 being achieved for a 9-year-old British Blue cow from Messrs P & MR Carruthers, Raw Foot, weighing 824kgs (347.5ppk), selling to Mr C Anderson. A consignment of 3 Limousin x Beef Shorthorn cows, none-farm-assured from Messrs Wiseman & Son, Moor End, averaged £2616.85 (320ppk), topping at £2754.32, also purchased by Mr C Anderson. Black & White cows were comfortably 5–10ppkg sharper on the week, topping at £2176.06/276.5ppkg for an 8-year-old British Friesian cow from Messrs James, Melmerby Mill, selling to Mr D Barker. Messrs JD & F Wharton, Town Head Farm, Tebay, sold 3 British Friesian cows to average 265ppkg/£1973.01, topping at £2150.55/275.5ppkg. Messrs Mattocks, Auldby Farm, sold parlour cows, through the TB exempt section to average a hefty £1933.49/257ppkg, topping at £2065.59/265.5ppkg. Younger Holstein cows from Messrs G & EA Harrison, Mount Clifton, VAN Assured and through the TB exempt section, achieved 285.5ppkg. The ring has never been as strong for cast cows with competition driving prices upwards, giving vendors premium returns! A pure-bred Limousin bull topped at £3299.07 from Messrs Somerville, Lansmere, weighing 847kg, realising 389.5ppk, purchased by JB Foods, Bradford. Charolais bulls from Messrs Raine, Fog Close, achieved a much sharper trade with a 750kg bull topping at £2921.25/389.5ppk. A Fleckvieh bull from Messrs RM & LA Woodhouse & Son, Howe Farm, achieved £1986.08, with a Holstein bull from the same home closely following at £1814.97. This home also sold British Blue X Jersey bulls to a top of £307.5ppk/£1532.38. A dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus bullock, weighing 846kg achieved £2584.86/321.5ppk from Mr IL Pigg, Linewath. More clean cattle and prime bulls are required on a fortnightly basis to fulfil the demand of our regular buyers.
