Today we held our fortnightly sale of 200 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls of all classes. All cattle sold to average £1994.61, with a predominant show of dairy-bred cattle. Topping the bullock section at £2405 went to a pair of dairy-bred Charollais bullocks from Messrs M Ridsdale & Son, Yew Tree Farm, selling to Mr J Kitching. Messrs Strong, Well House, sold a run of eight, 20-month-old, Limousin X bullocks and heifers, to average £2387.50, topping at £2495 for a superb Limousin X British Blue, again selling to Mr J Kitching. The best dairy-bred heifers sold to £2485 from Messrs J H & M E Chappelhow, Friendship Farm, selling to Mr R Dickinson. Messrs J E & D L Hodgson, Soulby Grange, sold Aberdeen Angus heifers to £2235 & £2225 purchased by Mr A Skelton. Hereford heifers sold to £2315 from Messrs R G Todd, Crosby Hall. Messrs I R & O M Wilson, Highbeckside, sold a run of six, 8-month-old, Limousin bullocks to average £1619, topping at £1735. Today we held our fortnightly sale of 63 OTM Cattle. Once again plenty of buyers were around the ring with all classes mirroring last fortnights bonanza trade, the sale topped at 411.5ppk for a pure-bred, 5-year-old British Blue cow from Messrs JE Bellas & Son, Croft Ends Farm, purchased by Mr D Barker, with a much older cow from the same home achieving 369.5ppk/£3432.66. A consignment of 3 Limousin X British Blue cows averaged £2705.63/352ppk from Messrs Lowis, Waterside House, topping at £3260.12/389.5ppk, purchased by Jewitt Meat Company. A run of good, hard Limousin X feeding cows averaged £2059.00/335ppk from Messrs JA & CM Brown, Park House Farm, topping at £2705.63/352ppk. Loads of demand amongst the Black & Whites, topping at £2491.95 for a superb 9-year-old Holstein Friesian from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Cape Farm, weighing 898kg, achieving 277.5ppk, purchased by Mr G Chapman. This was closely followed with an 8-year-old Holstein Friesian, through the TB exempt section from Mr JR Tiplady, The Bramery, also purchased by Mr G Chapman. A Dairy Shorthorn cow achieved £2081.19/259.5ppk from Messrs Wilson, Itonfield. Be wise and take the opportunity to benefit your pocket by selling live and join numerous other customers reaping the rewards. Prime cattle topped at £2600.13/387.5ppk for a Limousin X bullock, weighing 671kg from Messrs WE & B Wilson, Undercragg, purchased by R Pearson Wholesale Butcher. A packet of lightweight cattle topped at £2184.57/391.5ppk for a Limousin steer from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey, with this consignment averaging 382ppk/538kg. A consignment of dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus bulls averaged £1985/324ppk from Messrs RM & LA Woodhouse, Howe Farm, topping at £2039.61/329.5ppk. More clean cattle and prime bulls are required on a fortnightly basis to fulfil the demand of our regular buyers. Today we held our final fortnightly sale of 237 Store Hoggs. What a great way to finish the season, with a whole sale average of £114.57 being achieved. Topping the day’s trading at £149 was a Dutch Spotted tup lamb from Messrs A G Smyth, Victoria Road. Messrs Monkhouse sold a pen of 8 Texel X Herdwicks to realise £140. Suffolk Hoggs sold to £130 for a pen of 16 from Messrs Marrs, Manor Farm. That concludes this season’s trading.
