On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their sale of Prime Cattle. Prime bulls topped at £2921.75/391.5ppk for a Limousin, weighing 684kg from Messrs Lowis, Waterside House, purchased by R Pearson Wholesale Butchers. Dairy-bred Limousin bulls topped at £2534.60/353.5ppk from Messrs J Stobart, Newlands Mill, purchased by Mr R Medcalf, Halifax. All in all, plenty of demand was seen around the ringside with all buyers operating for numbers. More clean cattle and prime bulls are required on a fortnightly basis to fulfil the demand of our regular buyers. Our next sale will be held on Monday 13th April 2026

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 87 OTM Cattle. Another very successful cast cow sale was witnessed with vendors taking full advantage of our competitive ringside of 10 active buyers for all classes. All cows sold to average a colossal £1826.40, topping at £2994.83 for a Limousin X British Blue cow, weighing 898kg from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey, purchased by Mr D Barker, with others very closely following at £2794.50/337.5ppk, this run of 10 cows averaged £2335.54/304ppk. An 8-year-old first-cross Limousin cow, out of a Friesian, realised £2228.13/287.5ppk from Messrs Holliday, Clea Mire Black & Whites met a much sharper trade again with Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Cape Farm, selling an 870kg cow to £2379.45/273.5ppk, purchased by Mr G Chapman. A superb Holstein X Montbeliarde cow achieved 299.5ppk from Messrs TJ Graham & Son, Campfield Farm, Bowness on Solway, realising £2090.51. A consignment of 5 British Friesian cows, VAN accredited from Messrs J Armstrong, Highrigg, sold to average £1971.50/289.5ppk for 10–14-year-old cows, topping at £2291.84, purchased by Mr G Chapman. A run of 12 Longhorn cows, straight off grass, averaged 280ppk/£1685.50, topping at £1971.50/289.5ppk, selling to Mr C Anderson. Stock bulls topped at £3237.60 for an Aberdeen Angus from Mr R Dawson, Southwaite Farm, weighing 1081kg, purchased by Mr L Fell. This was closely followed by another Aberdeen Angus at £2730.50/317.5ppk from Messrs AJ & J Marston, South View, purchased by Mr C Anderson. Our next sale will be held on Monday 13th April 2026.

A show of predominantly 16-18-month-old dairy-bred cattle was forward, comfortably realising £1900-£2000. The sale topped at £2575 for a 22-month-old Limousin X bullock from Mr PA Whitehead, Ploveriggs, purchased by Mr D Barker. A 24-month-old Charolais bullock topped at £2515 from Messrs Wales, Thackwood, with this consignment averaging £2339. Dairy-bred bullocks topped at £2305 for a 20-month-old Limousin from Messrs Wilson, Itonfield. Heifers topped at £2465 for a Limousin from Messrs WJ & R Atkinson, Nook Farm, purchased by Mr A Skelton, with this run averaging £2200. Out-laid Aberdeen Angus X heifers achieved £2375 from Messrs EA & W Strong, Ploveriggs, with numerous others realising £2000 plus. A consignment of 8 dairy-bred British Blue heifers, 20-21 months old from Messes IS & CA Mounsey, Town Head, averaged £2232, topping at £2335 for a pen of 5. Young cattle sold exceptionally well with a pair of 10-month-old Limousin X British Blue heifers achieving £1985 from Mr TH Harrison, Sleddale Hall.
