Today we held our fortnightly sale of 61 cast cows.
Good numbers were forward in the cast ring with all buyers present and keen for stock. The plainest cows were comfortably the dearest with many more required to fulfil the demand of our 12 active buyers.
The sale topped at £2612.51 for an Aberdeen Angus stock bull, weighing 973kg (268.5ppk) from Mr FR Crew, Gall Farm, Lockerbie, purchased by Mr D Barker.
Messrs WE & B Wilson, Undercragg, sold 3 Limousin X cows to average £2103.35/303ppk, topping at £2283.27/314.5ppk.
OTM Holsteins topped at 293.5ppk from Skirwith Abbey, with parlour cows from this home realising £1995.60 & £1990.63.
Messrs Mattocks, Auldby Farm, sold a parlour cow, weighing 836kg to £2069.10 (247.5ppk), purchased by Mr G Chapman.
A tremendously well-bred pure Friesian cow, weighing 693kg from Messrs TJ Graham & Son, Campfield Farm, sold to 269.5ppk/£1867.64 through our TB exempt section.

We also held our fortnightly sale of Prime Cattle.
A good show of meat was forward in the prime ring, with the sale topping at 387.5ppk for a Limousin heifer, weighing 578kg from Messrs E & R Brass & Son, Barnskew, realising £2239.75.
Mr D Raine, Old Parks, a selling 24-month-old Limousin bull, weighing 695kg to £2574.98/370.5ppk, purchased by R Pearson Wholesale Butchers.
It was great to see new vendors in the prime ring, with Messrs ER Toppin & Sons, Gale Hall, selling suckler-bred Aberdeen Angus heifers to £2518.30/365.5ppk, with this home also selling lighter weights to 367.5ppk, purchased by Mr R Medcalf, Halifax.
Dalemain Estate, Penrith, sold a run of Blue Grey bullocks 586kg-665kg to average £1831.95, topping at £1938.48.
