Today we held our opening sale of 155 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A total of 155 calves and stirks were forward for our opening sale of the year, trade continues to show no let off, topping at £1760 for a great 16-month-old Limousin bullock from JE & LM Raine, Ravenwood. Messrs P & J Bailey, Far Bank End, sold a lovely run of 6 Beef Shorthorn bullocks to average £1171. Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm, sold a 5-month-old British Blue bull to £970.
A brilliant show of calves was forward, with demand still very strong. This section topped at £805 for a fantastic 4-month-old British Blue bull from Donaldsons Dairy, Threapthwaite Farm, with this home selling others to £770. Heifers topped at £700 for a beautiful 3-month-old British Blue from Skirwith Abbey, purchased by Mr M Strong, Hewer Hill. Aberdeen Angus heifers topped at £690 for 3-months-old from Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East. Dairy-sired calves continue to fly, topping at £425 for a 2-month-old Holstein from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Cape Farm
