Today we held our fortnightly sale of calves and stirks.
Numbers continue to roll into Penrith, 243 calves and stirks were forward with younger calves a storm of a trade. The sale topped at £1,460 for a pair of strong Charolais heifers, 11-months-old from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Cape Farm, with another pen of 3 realising £1,420. Messrs JJ, JM & JR Milburn, Stock Farm, sold 5 lovely Saler heifers, 13-months-old to realise £1,330.
Messrs A & A Little, Hollands, sold a packet of 4 Aberdeen Angus and British Blue stirks, 11-month-old to average £1,407. Messrs Dent, Kaber Fold, sold a pair of 7-month-old Beef Shorthorn bullocks to £1,330.
Bulls topped at £1,200 for a dairy-bred British Blue, 7-months-old from Olivia Robinson, Burblethwaite.
Calves continue to fly with no let off in demand or trade, topping at £1,120 for a British Blue bull from Messrs Sherwen, Low Thornley Farm. Donaldsons Dairy, Threapthwaite Farm, sold a 4-month-old British Blue bull to £1,010, purchased by Messrs JH & ME Grainger, Mirefold Farm. Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm, sold a Limousin X bull at 7-weeks-old to £930. Heifers topped at £820 for a British Blue, also from Donaldsons Dairy. Calves on milk were regularly £600 plus for all classes. Dairy-sired calves topped at £790 for a Montbeliarde bull from Messrs Sherwen, Low Thornley Farm. Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm, sold 5-week-old Friesian bulls to £490.
