Penrith Auction Mart is operated by Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP, a group of local farmers and other interested people, who took over the day to day operation from Penrith Farmers’ & Kidd’s in 2002.
The management team is led by David Crowden, Chairman and General Manager supported by 10 farmer directors and John Wharton, Auctioneer and Livestock Manager. We very much pride ourselves in being “Farmers working for Farmers” and the mart operation has gone from strength to strength. Weekly sales of prime cattle and sheep are held, together with fortnightly sales of store cattle. Seasonal sales of breeding cattle and sheep are held in the spring and autumn.
The stock is drawn from the fertile Eden Valley of Cumbria, the Pennines to the east and the large area of Lakeland hills to the west. The district has always been noted as one of the leading livestock areas of the country. Prospective buyers can come to Penrith in the knowledge they will see some of the best cattle and sheep available in the North of England.
All vendors are paid out on the day and we draw buyers from all over the country. The mart is fully farm assured.
We are situated on M6 Junction 40 where the A66 joins the motorway network and is most strategically placed for all parts of the country.
