On Monday Penrith & District Farmers' Mart LLP held our fortnightly sale of 120 Store Cattle and Feeding Bulls of all classes. A smaller offering of store cattle was forward to conclude an excellent year of trading here at Penrith. Many thanks goes to both our vendors and purchasers for supporting us. Topping the days trading at £2,345 came for a twenty-month-old Aberdeen Angus bullock with great flesh from Messrs IS & CA Mounsey, Town Head, this home also topped the heifer section at £2,245 for a twenty-five-month-old British Blue. This home’s run of eight sold to average £2,157. Limousin bullocks sold to £2,105 for an eighteen-month-old from Messrs BS & J Strong & Son, Hewer Hill. Today we held our fortnightly sale of 578 Store Lambs. The persistent rain up here in Penrith definitely didn’t dampen the bidding with store lambs continuing to fly. The sale topped at £144 for a single Beltex X lamb from Messrs JG & LM Kindleysides, Wickerslack, with this run of 23 averaging £132.96. M & L Gibson, Hopperhill, sold a beautiful pen of 9 Beltex lambs to average £137. Suffolk lambs soared to £124 for a pen of 7 from Messrs ME & JAE Potter, Rectory Farm. Dalehead sold a pen of 15 Suffolk Mules to £122. Mule lambs topped at £119 from Messrs N & O Frith, Cross Keys. Store lambs continue to fly and more can be sold in the new year.
