Yesterday we held our weekly sale of 2,417 Prime Lambs.
A much larger proportion of grass-fed lambs were forward, however, our averages remained strong with a whole sale average of 308ppk/£147.80 being achieved (322ppk SQQ), this up £13 per head on the year. Meaty well-fed sheep were showing no let off and more are needed.
Topping today’s sale at 449p/kg came for a superb pen of Beltex X lambs weighing 39kg, achieving £175 from Lyle Farming Company. This home sold 56 lambs within their run that achieved in excess of 400p/kg, a credit to the Lyle Family.
Top price per head on the day came for a single Texel X lamb, weighing 63kg, realising £192 from Messrs BS & J Strong & Son, Hewer Hill.
Suffolk lambs sold to a top of 347p/kg (£149) for a pen of 43kg lambs from Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey.
Mules topped at £155 for a 56kg lamb from Messrs J Carrick & Sons, Ireshope Plains.
Once again, Messrs DG & LM Strong, Sleagill House, topped the consignment averages for heavy sheep at £169.52 for 42 lambs sold.
