Christmas Prime Sheep Show Wednesday 3rd December 2025 On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their 2025 Christmas Show & Sale of prime sheep. Judging was in the capable hands of Mr James Mulholland of R & J Mulholland Butchers, Great Orton, established in 1964. Jimmy is a keen supporter of livestock auctions and has an excellent eye for quality stock, being a farmer himself. The overall championship was awarded to the Bindloss Family, Shap Abbey, well worthy champions with a pair of outstanding Beltex X lambs later selling for the day’s top price of £290 for 58kg or 500ppk purchased by the judge. Reserve champion honours were awarded to the Hall Family, Inglewood Edge, for their first prize pair of Texel crosses later selling for £250 for 46kg also purchased by the judge. These lambs topped the sale at 543p per kilo on the day. On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of Prime Cattle. A small offering of prime cattle was on offer with some great quality from Mr D Raine, Old Parks. Bulls topped at £2647.28 for a 705kg Limousin. Top pence-per-kilo at 387.5ppk was a 654kg Limousin, realising £2534.25. Bullocks sold to a top of £2788.77 (381.5p/kg) for a 731kg Limousin. Heifers topped at £2646.22 for 724kg. More clean cattle and prime bulls are required on a fortnightly basis to fulfil the demand of our regular buyers. Our next sale will be held on Monday 15th December.
